Observation Plaza and Walking Trails
A walking trail winds around the slopes of Mount Tategoe, offering occasional glimpses of the coastline along the way. Near the summit, the Tategoe Observatory provides an expansive panorama of Hinase Port, Hinase Ekimae Port, and the Hinase Islands. On clear days, visitors can also see Shodoshima Island in the distance.
The park is an inviting destination for travelers who want to enjoy the scenery without venturing far from the town’s harbor area. Whether taking a leisurely walk or stopping at the observation plaza to admire the islands, visitors can experience the natural beauty of the Seto Inland Sea from an elevated viewpoint.
The Tategoe Observatory and the Bell of Happiness
The observation plaza near the summit is arranged on two levels. On the upper level stands the Bell of Happiness, a ship’s bell manufactured in 1927. Measuring 30 centimeters in diameter, it is mounted on an arched stainless-steel frame.
The bell was originally used aboard a ship. Today, it is cherished as a symbol of good fortune, and local tradition holds that ringing it brings happiness. Couples, families, and other visitors come to sound the bell and make a wish while enjoying the surrounding harbor views.
Part of Minato Oasis Tobi
On February 25, 2018, the wider harbor area was registered as a Minato Oasis, a designation for port areas developed as attractive places for visitors and local communities. Minato no Mieru Oka Park forms part of this area, helping showcase Hinase’s coastal scenery and strengthen its appeal as a sightseeing destination.
Seasonal Flowers and Evening Scenery
The park offers beautiful natural scenery throughout the year. In spring, mimosa flowers brighten the grounds, followed by cherry blossoms that typically reach full bloom around April. The combination of colorful flowers, green hills, and views across the islands makes this a particularly appealing season to visit.
After dark, lanterns illuminating the cherry trees line the route toward the summit, creating a magical atmosphere. The softly lit blossoms and nighttime views provide a different perspective on the landscape, making an evening visit especially memorable during the spring flowering season.
Park Facilities
Bell of Happiness
The ship’s bell, manufactured in 1927, is one of the park’s best-known features. With its 30-centimeter diameter and distinctive arched stainless-steel frame, it serves as a popular symbol of happiness and a favorite stop for visitors taking photographs.
Rest Shelters
Three covered rest shelters are located around the park. One stands beside the summit observation plaza, another is situated above the stone monument bearing poems by Tekkan and Akiko Yosano on the middle slope, and the third is in the park area at the foot of the hill. These shelters provide places to pause, relax, and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Parking
Two parking areas serve the park. One is located near the summit observation plaza, while the other is close to an observation point halfway up the slope. These facilities make it convenient for visitors arriving by car to stop and explore the grounds at their own pace.

The park is conveniently located near Hinase Port and Hinase Ekimae Port and can also be reached by car. Its combination of panoramic sea views, seasonal flowers, and peaceful walking routes makes it a worthwhile destination throughout the year.
