Soja Dog: A Local Hot Dog Specialty

A creative hot dog made with local ingredients, with unique flavors to discover at different shops

A Food Project to Put Soja on the Map

Soja Dog was created in Soja City, Okayama Prefecture, with the aim of revitalizing the local community and promoting the area’s agricultural produce. To qualify as an official Soja Dog, a hot dog must contain at least two ingredients produced in Soja City. Only products recognized by the Soja Dog Promotion and Research Association can be sold under this name. The association was established with representatives from five organizations involved in areas such as tourism and economic development.

A Variety of Local Ingredients and Flavors

The ingredients used in Soja Dogs vary widely and include Senryo eggplant, black soybeans, and Pione grapes. Each shop creates its own distinctive version, offering a range of flavors, from Japanese-style seasonings to chili sauce and curry. This variety makes Soja Dog an appealing choice for travelers who enjoy discovering regional specialties and sampling different interpretations of the same dish.

Follow the Original Soja Dog Flags

Officially recognized shops display a special Soja Dog flag, making it easy for visitors to identify participating establishments. While exploring Soja, look out for these flags and try several versions to compare the ingredients, seasonings, and individual character of each shop’s creation. It’s a tasty way to experience local produce while supporting the community.
