History and Overview
The Origin of the Name
The name Washuzan comes from the mountain’s appearance when viewed from the northeast, where its outline resembles an eagle with its wings spread wide. The summit stands 133 meters above sea level and is known as Shōshūhō, meaning “Peak Gathering Outstanding Scenery.” This name was given by Tokutomi Soho, a renowned Japanese writer who praised the mountain for bringing together exceptional views in one place.
Observation Points and Scenic Views
Mount Washuzan faces the Seto Inland Sea, and its summit observation points offer views of the Seto Ohashi Bridge and the islands of the Shiwaku Archipelago scattered across the Bisan Seto Strait.
Looking north, visitors can see the townscape of the Kojima area, with views extending as far as Takamatsu City and Tamano City on clear days. The combination of coastal scenery, bridges, and islands makes Mount Washuzan one of the area’s most popular viewpoints.
