Okayama Tea: A Soothing Taste of Japan

Take a sip and unwind with the gentle aroma and rich flavor of locally grown Japanese tea.

Okayama Prefecture is a relatively small tea-producing region in Japan, with approximately 150 hectares devoted to tea cultivation. Despite its modest scale, the area offers excellent conditions for growing high-quality tea. Fertile soil, cool mornings, warm sunshine during the day, and morning mist rising from clear streams that flow through the valleys all contribute to the distinctive character of Okayama tea.

Traditional Tea Growing in Mimasaka

In the Kaita district of Mimasaka, Kaita-en Kurosaka Tea Production places particular importance on cultivating healthy soil, recognizing its vital role in tea leaf development. The producer oversees the entire process, from growing and hand-picking tea leaves in its own fields to processing them at its factory.

The selection includes several varieties, such as Okayama tea, premium sencha, flavorful green tea, genmaicha (green tea blended with roasted rice), and hojicha (roasted green tea). Each offers its own distinctive character and aroma.

When brewed, Okayama tea reveals a fragrant aroma, natural sweetness, and a deep, satisfying flavor. Whether you enjoy it as part of a quiet morning ritual or alongside a meal, a cup of this locally produced tea offers a relaxing taste of Okayama’s countryside and tea-making traditions.
